My Struggle with Anxiety

Tips for Dealing with Anxiety No. 1

Tips for Dealing with Anxiety No. 2

So I want to start by saying, these are just things that work for me and I totally understand they might not work for everyone but if even one person finds this useful, it’s worth sharing. This felt like an important time to share considering a lot of my anxiety can stem from the news or from not having plans/staying home of periods of time.

PLAY DUMB GAMES

So the best thing for me, is getting my mind off of whatever I’m hyper-fixating on. One way to do that is by playing games on my Kindle. I’ll be the first to admit that at the surface, these games are really dumb, but I’ve found they really help me relax. The three games I switch between are GardenScapes, HomeScapes, and TownShip.

WORKOUT/DO YOGA

I’m the worst at sticking with a workout routine but I do feel better when I do. There are also times when I feel anxious if I feel like I’m not doing something productive. So even if I do just a quick 10 minute workout or just some stretching, I feel like I can check the day off as being productive because I did something that was beneficial to me.

  • I do a lot of workouts from the Nike Training Club app (they have a bunch of free and quick workouts!)

  • Five Minute Abs- this is my favorite ab workout because its super easy, quick, and it BURNS. Which to me is the best way to know if I’m actually doing something!

  • Fitness Blender- they have a bunch of different types of workouts and I can always find something that targets a specific muscle group

  • Leg and Glute Workout- Y’all this one burns!

  • Yoga for Beginners- Haven’t done this one in a while but I definitely will do it soon because it felt like not only did it work muscles, it was a good stretch.

FOLLOW GOOD NEWS MOVEMENT ON INSTAGRAM

This is a great instagram account to follow, it’s all positive and happy news and stories. I spent like an hour scrolling through their feed one night and it just made me incredibly happy and really lifted my spirits. It’s my go to when I’m feeling discouraged or just want to see something that’ll make me smile.

ALLOW YOURSELF TO RELAX

This sounds really simple and maybe dumb but like I said above, one thing I get anxious over is if I feel like I’m not being productive or if I feel like I’m just being lazy. Right now I’m still searching for a full-time job and doing freelance work from home so a part of that is I sometimes feel guilty if I don’t feel productive. Or if feel like I need to take a nap, or want to take time to read a book, or watch a funny youtube video, I feel like I haven’t don’t enough to earn it.

But I’m trying to train myself not to feel that way and that it’s ok to take time out of my day or take a day to really relax and take care of myself. Be that take a nap if I’m feeling tired after not sleeping good, doing a face mask and painting my nails and just pampering myself. Letting myself take time to read a couple chapters in a book, watch a show or movie that I’ve really been wanting to see.

Now I’m not doing that everyday but if you work from home doing some small things to make yourself feel better is important!

Which speaking of working from home, another little thing that can make you feel better, do your hair, do your makeup, get dressed. It kinda makes you just feel better than just waking up and going straight to your desk in your pjs (I say this as I sit here typing in my PJs with no makeup on, but this is a change I plan to make, it’s all about change and finding out what works for yourself!)
